High Pressure IncubationsHigh pressure reactors are a helpful tool to work with anaerobic methane oxidation. From previous research it was clear that an increase of pressure causes an increase in sulfate reduction rate when methane was present. This is most probably caused by sulfate reduction by methanotrophs which convert methane into carbondioxide. Current research focusses on the application of high pressure reactors to stimulate growth and methane oxidation rates by mixtures of suspected methane oxidizing sediments and bioreactor sludges.
